Collecting geolocation data with the iPhone camera

I have wanted to do this video for a while. The present version of iOS changed how the collection of location data by the iPhone camera is turned on and off. I think that there are many educational uses for being able to position information in space and taking photos is one way to collect the data necessary to do this. Some are concerned about sharing their location along with photos so it is important to know how to turn this capability on and off. I have the process figured again so I thought I would share the process.

A Kid and her Dora Cam

I was taking pictures as my grand kids opened their Christmas presents. Our two and one-half year old granddaughter received a Dora camera. My son gave a quick tutorial on taking pics and off she went. Maybe she just liked the flash. She aimed her camera at me and I reciprocated. My son must have off-loaded her pictures, because the following image arrived today.

The following was my perspective.

There is always a debate regarding when children should be exposed to technology and how much time they should spend. Wouldn’t it be cool to just let young kids take pictures of their world. I wonder what they find interesting? They may wonder the same thing about us.
