In that post I promised to recommend a few books related to the topics covered in this documentary. My recommendations follow. For each recommendation, I will provide a brief description. Thomas Piketty – Capital in the 21st century – Piketty explains how wealth is being concentrated in a smaller and smaller proportion of the population. TED talk.

Kai-Fu Lee – AI superpowers: China, Silicon Valley and the New World Order. Lee is featured in the documentary explaining AI developments in China and the U.S. and commenting on changes in employment. 60 Minutes interview with Lee.

Shoshana Zuboff – The age of surveillance capitalism: The fight for a human future at the new frontier of power. Zuboff is featured in the documentary explaining how the record of our online behavior is collected as data to influence us in multiple ways. Triangulation interview with Zuboff.

David Weinberger. Everyday chaos: Technology, complexity, and how we’re thriving in a new world of possibility. Weinberger explains how big data and AI are being used to make decisions that move beyond traditional explanatory models. Triangulation interview with Weinberger.
