This problem should be easy to fix, but apparently it is not. Evidently, I have read Kindle books from a dozen and a half different devices or apps. There is a limit on the number of devices that can be used to view a given book. This seems a hedge against sharing and seems fair. One can delete devices remotely (use one device to delete another device).
What you cannot do (at least I do not know how) is determine which book is registered to which device. It seems that this is the kind of problem technology should be good at addressing.
