In general I am a Tom Friedman fan and have read nearly all of his books (e.g., The World is Flat; Hot, Flat and Crowded). He is pro education, but also believes the U.S. system is not aggressive enough given developments elsewhere.
Anyway, Friedman has taken note of MOOCs and see this as a revolutionary trend. The MOOC would seem to fit the themes he emphasizes and the role technology and education play in flattening everything.
Just for the record – some who study the role of the MOOC are somewhat critical of the Friedman perspective.
