After some preparatory work, the Foundation offered a call for grant proposals and now has announced the recipients. Andy Carvin offers a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/teachers\/learning.now\/2008\/02\/macarthur_foundation_announces.html\">nice summary<\/a> of some of the awards and includes links to some of the projects.<\/p>\n<p>An item that caught my attention was a course offered by Stanford&#8217;s Howard Rheingold on virtual communities ( see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialtext.net\/stanfordsocialmedia\/index.cgi?syllabus\">course syllabus<\/a>).
